To: County and municipal fire marshals
Senate Bill 888 amends the Health and Safety Code Section 791.004 by adding Subsection (c), which states:
(c) This chapter does not apply to a county courthouse that:
(1) was constructed before September 1, 1989; and
(2) is located in a county with a population of less than 50,000.
This amendment went into effect on May 23, 2023. Municipal and county fire marshal offices are encouraged to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Office for additional information and guidance.
