Purpose: The board oversees the association, which helps to protect Texans if a life, accident or health insurer or a health maintenance organization fails.

In accordance with Texas Insurance Code Sections 463.053, the board shall consist of nine members:
- three large insurer representatives from the 50-member insurers with the largest total direct premium income.
- Two representatives are from member insurers other than those 50-member insurers described above; and
- four public member
- HMO representative encouraged by SB 1153 (86R).
Terms: Members serve six-year staggered terms.
