Re:   Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association Rates


The Commissioner of Insurance has approved changes in the Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association’s (TAIPA’s) rates for private passenger and commercial automobile insurance. The changes are effective March 1, 2019, for new and renewal business.  Commissioner's Order No. 2018-5717.

The new rates represent an overall increase of 4.8 percent in private passenger automobile rates and an overall increase of 3.9 percent in commercial automobile rates.

Specifically, for private passenger automobile insurance, the new rates represent increases of 5.0 percent for bodily injury liability, 4.8 percent for property damage liability, 2.4 percent for personal injury protection, 4.5 percent for uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury liability, and 4.5 percent for uninsured/underinsured motorist property damage liability.

For commercial automobile insurance, the new rates represent increases of 4.3 percent for bodily injury liability, 3.3 percent for property damage liability, 3.5 percent for personal injury protection, 0.0 percent for uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury liability, and 0.0 percent for uninsured/underinsured motorist property damage liability rates. 

The new rates apply by coverage, territory, and class as described in TAIPA's Revised Rate Filing of October 17, 2018.
