This bulletin announces a call for rate information for the 2001-2002 Auto and Homeowners Insurance Rate Guides. The rate guides are published annually by the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). They allow consumers to compare annual premiums for insurance companies offering auto and homeowners insurance in Texas.
TDI requires all companies in the top 80 percent of premium volume in each rate guide region to be listed in the guides. A region is a group of two to four auto or homeowners rating territories. All other companies (those not in the top 80 percent) may provide TDI with this information and be included in the guides if they choose.
The attached form indicates whether your response is required or optional for each of the rate guide regions. You must provide required premium information within 10 days, under authority of Section 38.001 of the Texas Insurance Code.
The deadline for submitting rate information is June 20, 2001.
If your company is not in the top 80 percent of the market in a given region but would like to be included in the guides, you must provide the rate information by the deadline. Optional information received after the deadline may not be included in the guides.
Some companies may be required to submit information for some regions, but not for others. These companies may provide information to be included in the guides for the optional regions if they wish.
If your response is optional and you do not want to be included in the rate guides, you do not need to contact TDI.
