The Commissioner of Insurance, under Commissioner's Order No. 96-0836, has adopted increases in the maximum limits of liability for windstorm coverage written through the Texas Catastrophe Property Insurance Association (TCPIA). The limits of liability were increased by 2.9 percent on an annual basis for dwellings and contents coverage, 2.2 percent on an annual basis for governmental buildings and commercial buildings, and 2.3 percent on an annual basis for apartments, condominiums, and townhouses. The annual percentage increases were applied to the maximum limits of liability effective August 1, 1995, to derive the current maximum limits of liability which became effective October 1, 1996. The resulting maximum limits of liability after application of the adjustment are to be rounded up to the next $1,000 to produce the new applicable maximum limits of liability. The new maximum limits of liability are as follows:
| Old Limits | Revised Limits | |
|---|---|---|
| Dwelling and Individually Owned Townhouse Units and Corporeal Moveable Property | $279,000 | $288,000 |
| Apartment, Residential Condominium or Townhouse | $804,000 | $823,000 |
| Individually Owned Corporeal Moveable Property in Apartment, Condominium, or Townhouse Units | $108,000 | $111,000 |
| Governmental Buildings and Corporeal Moveable Property | $2,144,000 | $2,192,000 |
| Commercial Buildings and Corporeal Moveable Property | $1,084,000 | $1,108,000 |
The new maximum limits of liability are applicable to all TCPIA windstorm policies effective on and after October 1, 1996
