There are more than 90 days before my license expiration date

Two steps are required to renew your license:

  1. You must be fully compliant with your continuing education (CE) requirements.
  2. Wait until 90 days before your expiration date to make your payment.

Important: Your license won’t be renewed until both requirements are met.

Complete your CE requirements.

You must successfully complete the required number of CE hours for your license type every two years to keep your license in good standing.

  • To see how many hours you need, check your transcript on Sircon’s Inquiries webpage Continuing Education Transcript Inquiry.
  • Three hours must be in Ethics. License terms that ended on or before August 31, 2022 need only two hours of ethics.
  • At least half of your hours must be “classroom” or “classroom equivalent” courses.
  • Non-residents:
    • You must follow your home state’s rules.
    • If your state doesn’t require CE, you need to follow Texas rules.
    • If you have a Texas designated home state (DHS) license, you need to follow Texas rules.
  • To find approved courses, select Approved Courses Inquiry to view available courses on the Sircon website.
  • To ask for an extension or apply for the 20-year exemption, go to the Sircon website and select “Services” in the Education Services menu.

You can take CE courses at any time within a license term. We recommend completing your hours at least 30 days before your expiration date to allow your CE provider time to report your courses to us. You must complete them before midnight CT on your license expiration date to avoid fines and delays.

Fines

  • A $50 fine will apply automatically for each hour you don’t complete before midnight CT on your expiration date, no exceptions.
  • If your license expired after June 1, 2018 and you have CE fines, a maximum fine of $500 per license type applies. There is no maximum fine for license terms that ended before this date.
  • You must pay any fines you have in addition to completing your CE hours before you can become CE compliant.
  • To ask for an extension or apply for the 20-year exemption, click on Services in the Education Services menu on the Sircon website.

Be on the lookout for your renewal notice.

Your license is not ready to renew. You can pay your renewal fee up to 90 days before your expiration date, but no sooner. Watch for your renewal notice to arrive by email and pay your renewal fee before midnight CT on your expiration date.

  1. Confirm that your email address is up to date on our name/address change webpage.
  2. Your notice will arrive by email.
  3. You can pay your renewal fee up to 90 days before your expiration date, but no earlier.
  4. Be sure to pay no later than midnight CT on your expiration date.
  5. Advance payments will not be refunded.
