Division of Workers’ Compensation - Office of the Ombudsman

The Office of the Ombudsman is a neutral, independent program area within DWC that you can contact if you have concerns about how a DWC employee acted or a process was handled.

What we do

  • Review concerns about DWC staff: We look into inquiries about how a specific DWC employee acted or handled a claim.
  • Explain processes: We help you understand how DWC processes work and what to expect.
  • Check that processes are followed: We review situations to see if DWC processes were followed, that they are effective and consistent with workers’ compensation laws and rules.
  • Suggest improvements: When we see patterns or problems, we may recommend changes to DWC processes.

How to submit an inquiry

  • Include information to support your concern, like:
    • Your claim number.
    • Names of DWC employees involved.
    • Dates and events you are concerned about.
    • Briefly describe what happened and why you’re concerned.
  • Submit your inquiry online.

What we don’t do

Resolve disputes

A DISPUTE is a disagreement between an insurance car rier and an injured employee about a decision made in a workers’ compensation claim.

Investigate complaints

COMPLAINT is a written allegation that a system participant has violated workers’ compensation laws or rules.

Investigate fraud

FRAUD happens when someone willfully makes a false statement or conceals information in order to get workers’ compensation benefits or prevent someone from getting benefits.

Learn how to report suspected fraud.

We are not connected to the Office of Injured Employee Counsel (OIEC) or their ombudsman program. OIEC is the state agency that provides free assistance to injured employees with their workers' compensation disputes. Learn more about OIEC services at: www.oiec.texas.gov
