Stay fire safe in the workplace

Español

Did you know there are about 16,500 office and store fires every year? Know these tips to make sure you’re safe while in the office.
  1. Know evacuation routes.

Every office should have an evacuation plan. Know where exits are and where your rally point is. If you need help leaving the building, know where your safe area is.

  2. Keep appliances out of the cubicle.

Coffee machines, microwaves, hot plates, minifridges, and toasters all belong in the kitchen or break room. Make sure they’re plugged into the wall and not into a surge protector or extension cord.

  3. Keep the heat out of the cubicle, too.

Never use space heaters, candles, or heating devices at your desk or cubicle.

  4. Don’t use the elevator in an emergency.

Unless your building has a fire-evacuation elevator and you’ve been told to use it, never use an elevator to escape a fire. Always use the stairs.
