-
Put your generator outside.
Make sure your generator is at least 20 feet from your house. Never use it in the garage, even with the door open. Use heavy-duty outdoor rated extension cords to plug things into your generator.
-
Use flashlights, not candles.
Have flashlights and battery-powered lighting ready to use during a power outage. If you must use a candle, keep it away from anything that can burn and never leave it unattended.
-
Keep rechargeable devices away from water.
Before a possible flood or power outage, consider unplugging your devices and moving them to a higher area. If they’re exposed to water or submerged, place them in a non-flammable container and store them outside.
Your emergency responders might not respond as quickly during severe weather. So take it upon yourself to keep safety top of mind.
