3  Resolving a surprise medical bill

Balance billing – or a surprise medical bill – happens when you get a bill from a physician who isn’t part of your health plan’s network. We may be able to help. Call us at 1-800-252-3439 to discuss your options.

Texas law allows many consumers to seek mediation for bills more than $500. TDI has helped 94 percent of consumers lower their bills in the first stage of the process. We also helped recover almost $500,000 for Texans who filed complaints about balance billing in 2015. More about surprise bills

4  Comparing insurance rates

You can compare sample rates for home and auto policies at The website also has information about the types of policies and discounts you can get.

5  Finding a lost life insurance policy

To find out if a loved one had a life insurance policy or annuity, use the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ Life Insurance Policy Locator Service.
