Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Programmer provides software development support with applications (TXCOMP) running on a J2EE platform used by the Division of Workers’ Compensation and is responsible for assisting in the planning and migration efforts of all TXCOMP applications onto a single platform.


This position:

  • codes, tests, and debugs code and software programs; prepares test data; compiles and documents procedures used throughout software development and revision; and assists in preparing and developing instructions or manuals to guide end users;
  • assists in developing software requirements for proposed computer applications, including the preparation of detailed analyses, plans, and verification procedures;
  • analyzes, reviews, and revises scripts and programs to increase operating efficiency or to adapt new procedures;
  • assists in testing applications in all environments; prepares applications to implement into production environment;
  • assists in troubleshooting solutions to software-related problems;
  • acts as a senior developer that may mentor and oversee the work of others; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

 


Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, math, engineering, or other related field. Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. 


Additionally, this position requires:

  • four years of recent programming experience with Java (specifically but not limited to Java Server Pages, Enterprise JavaBeans, and Java Database Connectivity), Oracle databases, HTML, JavaScript, Reporting frameworks (PDF), Address Standardization tools, Content Management systems, Eclipse based IDE, secure coding practices and Version Control software.

 


Preferences for this position include:

  • working experience with Rational Application Developer, WebSphere Application Server, Crystal Reports, QAS ProWeb, IBM Content Manager, SVN, Natural/ADABAS, NeuArchitect, Struts framework, and Agile Software Development practices; and
  • working knowledge of ITIL-based best practices and coding to the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAA).

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and systems analysis;
  • computer operations procedures and systems; and
  • computer programming languages.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making and planning;
  • computer programming; and
  • the operation of computers and their hardware and software.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • analyze software problems and develop solutions;
  • design software and systems architecture;
  • prepare program specifications;
  • code, test, and debug computer programs;
  • apply critical thinking to interpret technical information related to computer programming and other areas of data processing;
  • work both collaboratively and independently;
  • interpret technical information related to computer programming and other areas of data processing;
  • communicate effectively;
  • work flexible hours as necessary;
  • maintain strict confidential information; and
  • follow ethical standards.
