The Insurance Specialist is responsible for reviewing and entering Life, Accident, and Health consumer complaints into a complaints tracking system.

This position:

  • enters consumer complaints regarding Life, Accident, and Health insurance coverages;
  • processes record/referral only complaint matters;
  • performs workflow duties such as indexing, composing correspondence, processing incoming mail and routing documents in a paperless environment;
  • learns the applicable laws of the Texas Insurance Code and other statues and rules of the Texas Administrative Code and comprehending their applicability to various types of insurance forms; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.


This position requires sixty college hours.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Additionally, this position:

  • requires one year of experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to the assignment.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • life, accident, and health lines of insurance;
  • rules and statutes pertaining to life, accident, and health lines of insurance; and
  • personal computers and Microsoft Office software.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making and planning;
  • communicating both verbally and in writing; and
  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • interpret rules, regulations, filing requirements, policies, and procedures;
  • comprehend state and federal health insurance statutes and rules;
  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, industry representatives, governmental officials, and the general public;
  • exercise good judgment and discretion;
  • work independently and as a team player;
  • be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks; and
  • meet daily deadlines.
