Current opportunity: Licensing Technician

Internal/External for TDI Employees and the General Public

The Licensing Technician performs entry-level administrative support work for the Licensing Administration Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

This position:

  • performs high volume data entry of licensing records in a computer database;
  • processes daily revenue mail;
  • retrieves and delivers mail;
  • processes letters and notifications for holding file renewals;
  • assists applicants with licensing requirements, in person or by telephone;
  • mails monthly renewal notices, insurance reminder notices and expiration notices;
  • maintains a hardcopy filing system of licenses;
  • processes requests for information;
  • prepares summary of work performed;
  • maintains supplies; and
  • maintains supply of printed materials used for mail outs.


Graduation from high school or equivalent.  College hours in course work relevant to required experience may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Additionally, this position:

  • requires one year of experience in administrative or clerical support.

This position requires the demonstrated knowledge of:

  • business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques, and procedures;
  • personal computers and Microsoft Office software; and
  • office practices and administrative procedures.

This position requires the demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making and planning;
  • using Microsoft Office software applications such as, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook; and
  • using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the general public;
  • provide courteous and responsive customer service;
  • follow procedures;
  • handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage conflicting priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • work harmoniously with fellow employees in an effective, results oriented, productive team environment; and
  • lift materials up to 25 lbs
