Internal/External-TDI Employees and the General Public

The Accounting Technician performs routine technical accounting support work in the Accounting Office within the Administrative Operations Division.

This position:

  • assists with tracking invoices to ensure payments are made;
  • reviews, classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial accounting documents and records;
  • maintains documentation and record keeping;
  • processes payments, general journal, and related vouchers;
  • processes vendor information;
  • researches, analyzes and coordinates payment discrepancies; and
  • performs related work as assigned.


Graduation from high school or equivalent. College hours in course work relevant to required experience may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Additionally this position requires:

  • one and one-half years of accounting or general office experience.

Preferences for this position include:

  • experience using Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS);
  • experience using Texas Identification Number System (TINS);
  • college course work in accounting; and
  • familiarity with bookkeeping principles.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • accounting principles and procedures affecting the maintenance of accounting records and automated accounting systems; and
  • the use of personal computers and related software such as word processing, Microsoft Word and Excel.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • decision making, planning, and problem solving;
  • the use of personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Word and Excel; and
  • the use of relational databases and tracking systems.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • handle multiple tasks simultaneously and manage conflicting priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • present complex information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner;
  • type a minimum of 45 words per minute;
  • review work for accuracy and accurately perform detailed numerical work;
  • make arithmetical computations;
  • prepare financial and accounting records;
  • communicate effectively with all levels of employees and the public; and
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with manager, team members, co-workers and the public.
