The Data Analyst performs advanced data analysis in support of the financial analysis function.

This position:

  • analyzes automated financial data submitted by companies to determine statutory compliance, developing analysis systems utilized by division staff for solvency monitoring;
  • efficiently utilizes Visual Basic for applications for creating, designing and maintaining systems in Access, Excel, and Word;
  • creates statistical and ad hoc reports for solvency monitoring using Access, Excel and SQL;
  • documents and maintains database processes; and
  • completes special projects and data calls.


Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or a related field.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Additionally, this position:

  • requires one year experience in databases, system analysis, and/or coding.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • relational databases, data integrity, data and system analysis;
  • Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlookwriting SQL queries, VBA (Visual Basics for Applications) code, and sub-routines in Excel; and
  • business terminology, spelling, grammar, arithmetic, personal computers and office practices and procedures.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • managing multiple priorities; and
  • problem solving, decision making and planning.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • communicate and work effectively with agency staff, the insurance industry, governmental officials, and the public;
  • train staff in the use and maintenance of database systems;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
  • use and understand HTML; and
  • understand and follow instructions.
