Current Opportunity: Data Base Administrator

Internal/External Posting – TDI Employees and General Public

The Data Base Administrator performs moderately to highly complex database administration work which involves coordinating, planning, developing, maintaining, and monitoring integrated database systems.


This position:

  • assists with establishing and implementing database security controls and user access levels;
  • maintains data standards;
  • prepares and develops database documentation, procedures, and definitions for data dictionaries;
  • assists with analyzing, designing, and maintaining database structures;
  • coordinates and supports migrations to new data management system software levels and tests the migrations to ensure data reliability and functionality;
  • evaluating and reviewing database policies and procedures;
  • assists in developing standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures designed to ensure the integrity of the database environment; and
  • performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, management information systems, or in a field relative to assignment.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. 


Additionally, this position requires:

Data Base Administrator II  

  • one year of experience in computer systems, data analysis, or database development and maintenance work; and
  • one year practical experience in SQL script writing, and one year of practical experience administering to Oracle 12c or SQL Server database systems serving in a DBA role.

Data Base Administrator III  

  • two years of experience in computer systems, data analysis, or database development and maintenance work; and
  • two years practical experience in SQL script writing, and one year of practical experience administering to Oracle 12c or SQL Server database systems serving in a DBA role.

Data Base Administrator IV 

  • three years of experience in computer systems, data analysis, or database development and maintenance work; and
  • three years practical experience in SQL script writing, and one year of practical experience administering to Oracle 12c or SQL Server database systems serving in a DBA role.

Preferences for this position include:

  • experience in Agile Software Development practices or Test Driven Development;
  • secure coding practices;
  • knowledge of ITIL-based best practices; and
  • knowledge of coding to Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAA).

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • the principles, practices, and techniques of computer databases, programming, and systems design;
  • computer operations, systems, and procedures;
  • project control and cost estimating techniques;
  • computer database application systems;
  • data processing flowcharting techniques;
  • database structures and theories;
  • current database technologies; and
  • data analysis and evaluation techniques.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem solving, decision making, and planning;
  • apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems; and
  • the use of a computer and applicable software.

This position requires the demonstrated ability to:

  • identify and define user functional and technical database needs;
  • conduct short-range and long-range project planning studies;
  • develop reports;
  • work flexible hours as necessary;
  • maintain strict confidentiality of information;
  • follow ethical and IT security standards; and
  • work independently and collaboratively with all stakeholders.
