Current Opportunity: Compliance Specialist

Internal/External Posting - TDI employees and the General Public

The Compliance Specialist performs an array of technical and administrative activities related to program assignment. Work involves performance and support of desk reviews of complaint referrals for compliance with the Texas Labor Code and Commissioner Rules.

This position:

  • reviews and processes incoming phone calls, mail and e-mail related to complaints and other compliance matters;
  • opens and closes complaints in agency systems and issues related correspondence;
  • files and maintains confidential documents in accordance with State of Texas retention policy; and
  • reviews complaint referrals for compliance and recommends enforcement actions.


Sixty college hours.  Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

Additionally, this position requires:

  • eighteen months’ experience in technical work, program administration, or a field relative to assignment.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:

  • MS Office applications; computer technology principles and terminology; paperless/automated systems; office practices, business terminology, spelling, grammar, mathematics; and
  • administrative, planning, and implementation processes.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:

  • problem-solving, decision making and planning;
  • using Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook; and
  • effective, professional verbal and written communication.

This position requires demonstrated ability to:

  • master the principles of workers' compensation and evidence requirements under the Administrative Procedures Act for the purpose of investigating complaints;
  • research, interpret and apply the Texas Labor Code and Texas Administrative Code;
  • present data, policies, and recommendations in a clear, and concise manner;
  • manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities in order to meet necessary deadlines;
  • work independently on a variety of high-level, complex administrative duties/issues and technical assignments;
  • use critical thinking to analyze and solve work related problems;
  • communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees and the general public; and
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, team members, coworkers, and the public.


Grammar test will be administered during interview.
