- Update on Rio Grande Valley flooding response: Governor Greg Abbott’s request for a federal disaster declaration for Cameron and Hidalgo counties following major flooding in June was granted by FEMA and President Trump on July 6. The Texas Division of Emergency Management requested that TDI send insurance specialists to the Rio Grande Valley to help consumers with insurance questions and claims. Four disaster recovery centers are open in Weslaco, Mission, McAllen, and La Feria. TDI volunteers did outreach throughout the two counties and helped consumers at the DRCs. TDI’s response wraps up on July 27.
