TWIA Expert Panel - Public Meeting

Location: Hobby Building, Room 100
333 Guadalupe
Austin, Texas

The TWIA expert panel will hold a public meeting to inform the public about the progress of the panel's work, to allow the public to observe the panel discussing its work, and to give the public an opportunity to comment.

During this meeting, the panel plans to discuss recommendations for the damage estimation module of the model it is developing to determine whether loss to TWIA-insured property is caused by wind, waves, tidal surges, or rising waters not caused by waves or surges. The damage estimation module is based on building-specific data and wind and surge time histories.

The commissioner appointed members of the TWIA expert panel under Insurance Code Section 2210.578 and 28 Texas Administrative Code Sections 5.4260 - 5.4268. The purpose of the panel is to develop ways of determining whether the cause of loss to TWIA-insured property was wind, waves, tidal surges, or rising waters not caused by waves or surges. After the panel completes its work, the commissioner will consider the panel's findings and publish guidelines that TWIA must use to settle claims.
